My AC condensing unit only turns on in the fan on setting and not the auto setting. Is the thermostat bad?

Goodman furnace with lennox condensing unit. Contactor on the condensing unit only gets pulled in when the thermostat is set to the fan on setting not the auto setting. Thanks
