Why didnt we win in Vietnam?

It boiled down to a political war. The decisions were made in the White House. To many peace accords, One moment you could only fire at someone if they fired first, then at times it was go out and kill what ever looks like the enemy. Encounters with the regular North Vietnamese soldiers weren't all that frequent. It was mainly Guerrilla warfare with a country that had many years of fighting the Chinese, the Japanese, etc. under their belt. The intelligence gathering wasn't the greatest, you couldn't trust the South Vietnames soldiers and the on and off fighting crumbled moral, and only specialized sites in the North could be bombed. Nothing that would cause Humanitarian damage, such as dams. The government in the south was for ever changing. There would be some type of coup attempt almost weekly. The Guerrillas were very relentless and had an expertize in their type of warfare. It was hit and run for them. The military that was sent over at first were actually trained for a European front because of Russia, and Johnson didn't want to start a war with China because of what happened in Korea. It really was a Number of things over there as well as over here. I only know that my best friend who I had gone to school with from the 4th grade to High School, was vaporized because he drove an ammunition truck that hit a mine. Well enough of that.
